      Couples Workshop

      Description: A weekend especially designed to assist couples in making desired changes both in themselves and their relationship in order to have the kind of life together they want. Information from Redecision Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Sculpting and other approaches will be used to assist couples in increasing their awareness, autonomy, spontaneity, and capacity for intimacy with one another. Up to five therapists will be invited to observe the process and learn this approach. They will have an opportunity to meet separately, twice a day with the leaders, to discuss their observations. Join us for a fun and productive weekend.

      Dates: August 1-3, 2008

      Richard Erskine

      The Psychotherapy of Obsessing, Habitual Worrying and Repetitive Fantasizing

      Description: This day-long workshop will focus on a six point treatment model for the psychotherapy of obsessing, habitual worrying and repetitive fantasizing. In the morning, Richard will teach the Relational and Life Script perspective followed by a demonstration and discussion. In the afternoon, Dr. Erskine will cover the Psychological Functions, avoidance mechanisms, unconscious archaic processes and controlling aspects of the various obsessing dynamics. This will be followed by another demonstration and discussion. The methods of cognitive understanding, behavioral change, affective expression, uncovering unconscious psychodynamics and a relational psychotherapy will be applied in the treatment planning.

      Biographical Statement: Richard G. Erskine, Ph.D. is the Training Director of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, New York, New York and serves on the faculties of other Institutes and Universities internationally. He is a certified Transactional Analyst and Gestalt therapist and a licensed Psychoanalyst. Twice Dr. Erskine has been the recipient of the Eric Berne Award for his development of theory and methods in Transactional Analysis. His most recent book, co-authored with Janet Moursund, "Integrative Psychotherapy: the Art and Science of Relationship" is published by Thomson:Brooks/Cole, 2004.

      Learning Objectives: (1) Participants will learn and be able to apply in practice a differential diagnosis distinguishing repetitive fantasies, habitual worry and obsessions; (2) Participants will achieve practical skills in the application of a six part treatment plan for the psychotherapy of obsession; (3) Participants will gain an understanding and clinical sensitivity for the unconscious psychodynamics and psychological functions that are prerequisites for behavioral change.

      Transactional Analysis, usually known as 'TA', is a theory of human communication, development, growth and change. The underlying philosophy is one of mutual respect, personal empowerment and equal engagement. Jean Illsley Clarke, an experienced educator and author of several books, has been training professionals and parents in the application of TA to childhood development and the adequate nurturing and training of children for many years. In this workshop she will introduce participants to her ideas on how to be effective in meeting the needs of our children. When and how can we affirm and nurture them? When and how can we provide structure and say "No"?

      This workshop is suitable for parents, educators, social workers and counsellors- it is informative, empowering and fun.

    Cultural Factors affecting all our Relationships

    Drescription: Transactional Analysis, usually known as 'TA', is a theory of human communication, development, growth and change. The underlying philosophy is one of mutual respect, personal empowerment and equal engagement. Pearl Drego is an experienced psychotherapist, educator, community activist and author of several books. She won the Eric Berne Memorial Award for her work on Cultural Scripting. She has been working in communities in India for many years In this workshop she will introduce participants to her ideas on how we are shaped by cultural messages that often inhibit our full development or realisation - whether in terms of gender, race, class, faith or ethnicity. Sessions will include "Understanding and resolving conflict", and "Affirmations to release potential". She has developed a way of working that enables people to access their capacities to develop as individuals, as members of communities and as part of a greater spiritual Being/Whole.

    This workshop is suitable for, educators, social workers, counsellors, parents and those seeking their own development - it is informative, empowering and fun. No prior knowledge of TA is required.
